Fiber and fabric plasma treatment technology research has been 40
years of history, but in the field of textile wet processing, plasma
technology applications are mainly concentrated in the industrial
textiles.
Plasma
treatment can be divided into two main types: one is known as
"degradation of the surface treatment" to remove the fiber surface of
the material; the other is the surface of the fiber activation or give
it functional, so that it can be processed later , Such as coating.
Such plasma treatment can achieve the following effects:
Surface cleaning treatment
Etching effect
Sterilization effect
Surface activation, such as temporary increase in surface energy
Functionalization of the surface, such as the introduction of chemical groups
Surface coating / finishing agent deposition
Compared
with conventional wet processing such as batch or continuous wet
processing, foam processing, solvent treatment, etc., the advantages of
plasma treatment is to provide leave, dry operating environment. In addition, the plasma treatment has a high specific surface area
and, if properly operated, does not affect the main body properties of
the textile fibers or filaments.
In
essence, the plasma processing technology is eco-friendly technology,
water consumption is negligible, and the energy consumption is
significantly reduced, the use of chemicals is also significantly
reduced. The
plasma treatment also provides a new processing route for the
pretreatment, dyeing, printing, chemical finishing, coating and
lamination of textiles. In particular, after the surface of the textile fiber is treated by
plasma, its surface is more durable than the combination of chemicals,
coating or lamination.
Plasma processing equipment can be carried out in low pressure
environment (1-100Pa) or atmospheric pressure, low pressure plasma
equipment treatment effect is more uniform and more flexible.
Plasma processing technology has many potential applications in the field of textile processing:
Improve the adhesion of textile coatings
Enhance the water absorption of hydrophobic synthetic fibers, such as polypropylene fibers
Used for pretreatment of water repellent, oil repellent, anti-stain finishing
Pretreatment for superhydrophobic or self-cleaning finishing
Improve the dyeing properties of the fiber
Pretreatment for improving fiber printing performance
Used for preprocessing of digital printing
Change the conductivity of the fiber
Increased antibacterial and flame retardancy
The latest research progress is plasma polymerization, including:
The plasma polymerization process is carried out directly on the fiber surface
Surface grafting of the polymer
The polymer is deposited on the surface of the fiber or reacted with the fiber surface to impart a functional
The use of low temperature plasma discharge synthesis of new polymer
structure, which can give the fiber surface of the new application
effect
Now,
scientists are studying the use of air dielectric barrier discharge
plasma to remove impurities in cotton cloth, and compared with the
traditional caustic soda cooking process. It
was found that plasma treatment could remove hydrophobic non-cellulose
impurities on the surface of cotton fibers and form polar carboxyl
groups. The optical emission spectra show that the plasma has ozone formation in the ozone and excited states. UV photons and ozone surface etching and oxidation degradation, the cotton fiber surface impurities removed. The effect of plasma removal of cotton fiber impurities is comparable to that of traditional caustic soda. But atmospheric pressure plasma treatment is more eco-friendly.
